Why now is a good time to switch to Solar?

Mother Nature is trying to send us a message: Switch to Solar and become self-reliant; times will be challenging, and we must act now. As the title entails, we will list several reasons why now is an excellent time to ditch private energy companies and embrace Solar Power.

Rising Tariff charges:

Inflation is rising, and so will the per unit electricity consumption charge. What was once INR 3-5/unit has now drastically increased to an average of INR 8/unit and will not stop there. Don’t be surprised if it touches INR 10-15/unit shortly.

Note: We are highlighting the energy billing charges of India, other countries may have their billing mechanism, and they can compare to their standards.

On average, we spend around INR 2000-3000/month on monthly electricity bills, roughly INR 36,000 for a year. In the next 5-6 years, we might spend INR 40,000-50,000/year on electricity. Now, imagine saving all these expenses you incur currently and never paying a penny for the electricity you use for the next 25-30 years. Yes, this is possible if you Switch to Solar.

Work from Home:

Employee Working from Home. Switch to Solar.

Post Covid, we have adapted to a new work form: Working from Home. Our computers, laptops, wifi, and other electrical appliances must run seamlessly to retain this working environment. Therefore, an uninterrupted power supply is essential. However, our power grid comes from government or private players. In that case, the continuous power supply cannot be guaranteed, and there will be many power cuts.

Power cuts can cause immense productivity losses to an employee working from home, which can compel the company to discontinue their employee’s WFH and ask them to join the office. Therefore, if you reside where power cuts are a usual affair, consider installing Solar Panels to ensure a seamless power supply even during power cuts. As a result, you can continue working from home and save time, energy, and travel costs.

Frequent Power Cuts or Black Outs:

Total power blackout in the city. Switch to Solar.

One thing that many of us don’t like about the summer and monsoon season is that it brings along loads of power cuts. This is because the energy demands of citizens peak during Summer, and to cater to this increasing demand for energy, we often experience power cuts for a couple of hours.

During monsoons, when heavy footfall of rain and winds are blowing at high speed, we tend to see power cuts for hours to save lives and property. Excessive rains can cause the power stations or transformers to submerge under water; in such conditions, we may face power outages for a couple of days and are at the mercy of local power stations to restore power.

But what if we have our Solar panels? Do you know solar panels also work in cloudy conditions and can be stored? Then, one can easily switch to Solar, bypass this hassle during summers and monsoons, and have sufficient power to light their house while others face power cuts.

Impacts of Economic Collapse:

We have witnessed countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Greece, Venezuela, Iran, and many others collapsing due to economic instability, policy paralysis, or inability to pay debts. Do you remember the financial crisis of 2008 in the United States? Millions of people lost their homes and jobs. Even developed countries are still within their reach. Weak and corrupt political leadership is primarily responsible for any country’s economic collapse.

An economic collapse can result in inflation, recession, chaos, and socio-political instability, among many others. Moreover, everyday energy needs can get extremely expensive or unavailable during an economic collapse for unforeseen days. Therefore, to brace for the impact of economic collapse, becoming self-reliant for your energy needs instead of depending on your government is the only way out.

For instance, if you are a salaried person or someone who runs a company, switching to Solar Power in advance will help keep your job or company running without relying on the government; the money you save from energy bills can be utilized to fulfill some other basic needs such as food and water.

Geopolitical Tensions:

War conditions:

Geared up soldiers holding weapons and an attack helicopter flying above them.

Believe it or not, we live in an era of war, and times are tough. This war is by superpowers to establish supremacy and control other small nations. The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of it. When two or many countries are at war, the attacking country targets critical assets like power generation centers. As a result, entire countries or states can lose their access to power. We don’t need to remind you how crucial electricity is in our daily lives.

Under such circumstances, relying less on the regime and boosting your capability to meet your energy needs is always better. Therefore, switch to Solar Power for your energy needs and liberate yourself.

Sanctions Hegemony:

Sanctions are imposed to destabilize the economy of the country. A superpower or a union of countries can impose these sanctions for various reasons on the entire government, specific sectors, companies, and individuals. These sanctions can profoundly impact the ability of a government to trade with other countries and import/export oil & gas, which are vital for running any economy and can have a severe impact on its power sector. The inability to produce energy due to sanctions can either result in hours of power cuts or blackouts for days until an alternative is found, which is problematic.

Contribute to Mother Earth:

Energy generation using fossil fuels is causing devastating consequences on nature. We are now experiencing climate change and global warming for real. Under such circumstances, we must take charge, Switch to Solar and contribute a small part towards strengthening nature. We can consider this as an investment in our hearts.

For instance, if a government is producing energy using fossil fuels like coal, gas, petroleum, or nuclear and supplying it to 1000 households, imagine the pollution it creates. Whereas, if 100s of these households switch to solar, and with time even if 200-300s families follow them, the government will have to burn less fossil fuel than it used to. This way, we are contributing towards the restoration of our nature.

Solar Power is free:

Our Sun does not charge a penny for the massive Solar Energy it presents us. Isn’t it quite nice of him? Also, he never takes a holiday. Yes, he may be less vibrant during monsoons. Still, there are Solar Panels that can generate energy even during cloudy weather conditions or less sunlight. Now, you might be wondering about the cost!

The initial installation may be costly, but government incentives are in place. Solar loans are available at low-interest rates from Banks and NBFCs. This is a one-time, long-term investment as the life shell of solar panels is roughly 25-30 years, and you can recover your investment in 3-5 years.

Conclusion:

Therefore, in conclusion, the future is unpredictable. Countries can end up in a war or face sanctions or corrupt politicians, and their policies can sink the economy. We have zero to no control over some of these, but chuck it; let’s focus on what we can control: becoming independent, becoming self-reliant, and producing our own energy needs by switching to Solar.

With evolving dynamics of the world, it’s not just food and water we need to survive but also energy. So, how soon are you switching to Solar? Let us know in the comment section. If this article has sparked your awareness, please share it with your friends and family.
